A small version of the famous little tank engine. This one is a cake decoration. The stud you can see below it kept it on the little track that came with it; on the far side is a clockwork mechanism winder to make it move around the track. How cool is that!

House Update: Saturday, November 4
Our house. Another week with little or no exterior progress. Our two neighbours have gained colour exterior paint this week – I guess last week’s rain arrived just as they were getting to our house, so hopefully we’ll get our exterior colour this week.
Inside, there is more progress again though. There is now a fireplace in the family room, and cabinets in the kitchen.
Schmap Maui & Molokai Travel Guide
A while back I received a Flickr email (why, oh why did they create another email system?) from Schmap Guides asking whether I would mind them shortlisting five of my photos from Maui for inclusion in their Maui and Molokai travel guide. As with most people who ask, I agreed and thought nothing more of it.
The other day I received another email saying that the five photos had been included in the guide and it had been published. You can download it from the box above (for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only at the moment sadly, though they promise a Mac version is coming early next year).

House Update
Almost three weeks since I took a photo of our house. A lot has changed since that photo, though not much has happened on the outside in the last week. Still no tiles on the roof (well, I guess they’re stacked up there, but that doesn’t count) and still just the white primer on the exterior. Inside lots seems to be going on.
The row opposite us are making good progress on the outside too (they’re one phase before us), so I think once they’ve finished that set, they’ll move across the street to our side.
Sharing The Internet is Theft Now?
Reading about FON handing out free wireless home gateway boxes, which just happen to act as public access hotspots at the same time, I noticed this comment from one US ISP:
“People need to know that sharing their broadband service amounts to theft,” says Time Warner cable spokesperson Maureen Huff.
More misuse of the word “theft.” Of course, Time Warner is also one of the companies that is screaming theft for other things. That’s not to say it is not wrong. It is almost certainly a violation of the terms of service that the company requires you to agree to before providing service. I’m not a lawyer (thankfully), but I don’t think that’s theft. Sounds more like a contract violation.
I have a FON AP, but it is running on our office network. It is one of several that we have at work in fact. The new La Fonera boxes are also very small. The switch from the Linksys WRT54GL to an Atheros based design of their own allows them to offer virtual APs, so the box has the unencrypted public access network, and a second private wireless network that comes configured for WPA-Personal.

Love – Tokyo
Somewhat busy at work at the moment (more on what that is very soon now I hope), so I haven’t had much time to upload any new photos. Instead, here’s an old one taken on a business trip to Tokyo.
These 3D replicas of Robert Indiana‘s iconic Love image can be found in a number of cities around the world.
