House Update: Sunday, December 3

Sunday, December 3Lots of progress this week! The roof is finished; the fences are up, the railings are up on the deck and the two faux balconies and the front area is graded and has sprinklers installed ready for the grass & plants to go in.

Inside the floors are down in most of the downstairs area too, though they’re all covered at the moment with protective boards so can’t really see how they look.

House Update: Saturday, November 4

Saturday, November 4Our house. Another week with little or no exterior progress. Our two neighbours have gained colour exterior paint this week – I guess last week’s rain arrived just as they were getting to our house, so hopefully we’ll get our exterior colour this week.

Inside, there is more progress again though. There is now a fireplace in the family room, and cabinets in the kitchen.

House Update

Saturday, October 28Almost three weeks since I took a photo of our house. A lot has changed since that photo, though not much has happened on the outside in the last week. Still no tiles on the roof (well, I guess they’re stacked up there, but that doesn’t count) and still just the white primer on the exterior. Inside lots seems to be going on.

The row opposite us are making good progress on the outside too (they’re one phase before us), so I think once they’ve finished that set, they’ll move across the street to our side.

Finished Plan 9

Plan 9This is similar to the finished exterior that we will have. There is one difference between this house (which is just down the street from where ours is located) and our one. Can you spot what it is?

More Progress

Saturday, October 7A little more progress this week on the exterior. Still not the final colour, nor is the roof tiled, but definitely getting closer. The rain last week didn’t seem to cause any problems, and there were people working inside when I wandered around to get this photo on Saturday afternoon.

Post-Tensioned Waffle Slab Foundations

FoundationsNot a great photo, but I only had the cellphone with me today on my way home from the ferry terminal on my bike. I decided to take a detour through Bayport to see how far from the terminal our future home will be. Just as I got into the area though I saw that they were getting ready to pour foundations for some future phases and thought it would be nice to get a photo showing what is inside the concrete.

In the photo you can see the green clad steel cables that provide the tension on the concrete (they are fixed at one end, and tensioned once the concrete is almost cured). You can also see all the 3′ square black boxes that add the waffle to the slab.

Exterior Walls

Exterior WallsWe dropped by our house to be earlier today to check on progress, and while we expected to see the dry wall going on inside the house, it was a pleasant surprise to see the first layer of the exterior finish had been applied ouside too.

Having all the doors and windows covered with polythene sheets made it impossible to see what was going on most of the interior, but the master bedroom french doors were ajar giving us a glimpse of fitted dry wall. Quite a change from two weeks ago!
