Those of you who have been watching my photo stream in Flickr will have noticed that I have been posting photos from France over the last few days. Paris was the first stop in my trip around northern Europe to get more Wi-Fi hotspots supported by Devicescape‘s auto-login tool. Keep up with the trip and all the hotspots that I find over at the Devicescape blog.

Things Tourists Say
A long time ago, about 7 years in fact, I pulled a list of silly things that tourists say out of a paper in Vancouver because they amused me. While unpacking boxes yesterday I found it again and thought I’d share my favourites with you:
- Do you drink salt water or fresh water?
- What’s the fastest way to drive to Vancouver Island?
- What’s that in real money?
- How much is $8.95?
- Do I have to get Canadian money while I’m here?
- Is there any money I can get that’s all one colour? It’s too hard in different colours.
- If I come up there with my kids can someone show me how to build an igloo?
- What’s the weather going to be like when we visit in two weeks?
- Can I go see polar bears in Victoria?
- If it rains on Monday, can you guarantee it won’t rain on Tuesday?
- Are the trees real?
- How much do your totem poles grow each year?
- Do you guys speak English or Canadian?
- Can I get the Canadian flag in a different colour?
- Is it called British Columbia because you’re part of England?
- I have a pistol I want to bring across – is that OK?
Beach Girl
One of those chance shots. I have no idea what she was looking at in the sky above the beach! Just after this she ran off along the beach with two of her friends, so it can’t have been anything that interesting.
This crop is also formatted to be the correct aspect ratio for Moo cards. Haven’t actually tried getting any of these printed yet, but I thought I’d start to add some photos that were the correct aspect ratio in preparation for getting some cards made 🙂
What Are You Looking At?
Back Again
Been a busy January! Lots to do getting the house set up (and still a lot more to do), then three days in Las Vegas for CES 2007 followed by a week in Puerto Vallarta with friends for a much needed break!
There have a been a lot of updates to Devicescape’s hotspot login service too in the last month (and there are more things on the way). This week we are at DEMO’07 showing off the hotspot login service. We have almost 40 networks in the list (10 confirmed working, the rest still in an experimental state) and are adding them as fast as our community members send them in.
I’m a long way behind on photo uploads; I still need to rebuild my office following the move which has not helped – hopefully I’ll get that done this week. I need to sort out which photos to get prints of for the house too, and find a way to display my magnetic photo collection (my old apartment door was metal so I had the inside of it covered in magnetic 4×6 photos).
Schmap Maui & Molokai Travel Guide
A while back I received a Flickr email (why, oh why did they create another email system?) from Schmap Guides asking whether I would mind them shortlisting five of my photos from Maui for inclusion in their Maui and Molokai travel guide. As with most people who ask, I agreed and thought nothing more of it.
The other day I received another email saying that the five photos had been included in the guide and it had been published. You can download it from the box above (for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only at the moment sadly, though they promise a Mac version is coming early next year).
Love – Tokyo
Somewhat busy at work at the moment (more on what that is very soon now I hope), so I haven’t had much time to upload any new photos. Instead, here’s an old one taken on a business trip to Tokyo.
These 3D replicas of Robert Indiana‘s iconic Love image can be found in a number of cities around the world.
Rainbow State
Ashdown Sunset
A sunset over the sheep at Ashdown Forest in south east England. This is the forest where the Winnie-the-Pooh stories are set, and there are many of the places from the stories marked around the area, such as the bridge where Christopher Robin, Pooh and his friends played Pooh Sticks.
